Fort Morgan

Building of this large brick fort was started in 1819 and completed in 1834. It was active during 4 wars; the Civil War, the Spanish-American War and World Wars I and II. The museum offers exhibits that detail the history of the fort.

 

 

 

 

 

Location:  Located 22 miles west of Gulf Shores on State Highway 180 West

Hours of Operation for Grounds and Fort:

  • 8-7 April 1 through October 31
  • 8-5 November 1 through March 31

Museum Hours:  9-5 year round

The Museum's collection includes artillery pieces, military uniforms, small arms, accoutrements, and memorabilia from the 19th century through World War II. Archival collections contain many original photographs, manuscripts, and documents.

Living history program is conducted daily during the summer hours. Candlelight fort tours available on Tuesday evenings during the summer. Civil War reenactments are staged every five years during the first weekend in August.
